How to Clean ResMed CPAP Equipment
A ResMed CPAP setup is not one washable object. It combines a powered flow generator, replaceable intake filter, humidifier tub, air tubing, mask frame, elbow, headgear and either a silicone or UltraSoft memory-foam cushion. ResMed directs users to unplug and disassemble the system, then hand-wash compatible parts with warm drinking-quality water and mild soap or detergent, rinse thoroughly and air-dry away from direct sunlight. The crucial exception is an AirTouch memory-foam cushion: it must remain dry and may only be wiped with a dry cloth or alcohol-free CPAP wipe when needed. ResMed also advises following its own user guides and does not treat ozone or unapproved cleaning devices as substitutes for the specified method. This guide creates separate paths for every component so a safe mask-washing instruction is never extended to the machine, filter or foam cushion.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify every model and cushion material
Record the machine, humidifier tub, tubing and mask names before cleaning. Determine whether the cushion is silicone or ResMed UltraSoft memory foam. AirFit and AirTouch parts can look similar while having opposite water rules, so do not rely on color or shape alone.
Step 2: Unplug and disassemble the system
Disconnect the machine from wall power, then remove tubing, humidifier tub and mask. Separate the cushion, frame, elbow and headgear according to the mask guide. Keep the flow generator, power supply and intake-filter area away from the sink.
Step 3: Wipe the powered machine exterior
Use a soft barely damp cloth on the exterior only, then dry it. Do not immerse, rinse or spray the machine and do not allow water into its air outlet, filter opening, card slot or power connector. Follow the manual's replacement rule for the intake filter rather than washing a disposable filter.
Step 4: Hand-wash silicone mask parts
For a silicone cushion and compatible frame or elbow, gently rub in warm drinking-quality water with the mild soap identified by the mask guide. Use a soft brush only on vents, swivels or rotating parts that permit it. Rinse thoroughly so no residue can enter the therapy airflow.
Step 5: Keep AirTouch memory foam dry
Do not rinse or submerge an UltraSoft memory-foam cushion. If cleaning is needed, wipe its outside with a dry cloth or an alcohol-free CPAP wipe and let it dry. Wash the separate frame, elbow and headgear by their own instructions; the foam exception does not exempt those components.
Step 6: Clean tubing and humidifier separately
Wash the air tubing and humidifier tub at the frequency and with the solution named in their user guides. Move mild soapy water through compatible tubing without piercing it, rinse with drinking-quality water and hang it so both ends drain. Empty the tub daily and never pour cleaner through the powered machine.
Step 7: Wash headgear on its weekly path
Hand-wash headgear in warm water with the specified mild soap, pressing rather than twisting elastic. Rinse until water runs clear. Do not machine-dry or iron it, and do not brush hook-and-loop areas in a way that frays the fabric.
Step 8: Air-dry and reassemble after inspection
Place mask parts and tub on a clean towel and hang tubing to drain, all away from direct sunlight. Reassemble only when every seam and connector is dry. Inspect for cracks, cloudy plastic, stretched headgear, torn foam and blocked vents; replace a deteriorated component instead of using stronger chemistry.
