How to Clean a Roomba 105 Vac Robot
The Roomba 105 Vac is a LiDAR-navigation robot with a three-stage cleaning system, washable-looking plastic surfaces and a filter that must remain dry. Versions sold with the AutoEmpty dock also add a disposable debris bag, evacuation pathway and dock contacts. iRobot recommends routine attention to the bin, filter, brushes, wheels, sensors and charging contacts, with more frequent care in homes with pets. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Pause cleaning and isolate power
End the job in the iRobot Home app or with the robot control, remove the robot from its dock and place it upside down on a soft dry towel. Unplug the AutoEmpty dock before cleaning its contacts or evacuation path. Do not service brushes while the robot may start, and keep liquids away from both charging systems.
Step 2: Empty and wipe the robot bin
Release the dust bin, open its door and tap debris into a trash container. Wipe the bin as iRobot directs, clearing the intake and latch without bending its seals. Do not rinse an installed filter or return a damp bin to the robot. If the exact bin is approved for wiping only, do not treat bare plastic as dishwasher safe.
Step 3: Remove and dry-clean the filter
Lift the filter by its tab and tap it gently against the inside of a bin. Use a soft dry brush on loose surface dust without puncturing or washing the media. iRobot lists filter replacement on a roughly three-to-six-month schedule, adjusted for use. Replace sooner if torn, odor-loaded or permanently restricted rather than attempting wet cleaning.
Step 4: Clean the main bristle brush
Open the brush frame using the documented release and lift out the main brush. Remove hair, fibers and thread from its bristles, ends and bearing areas with fingers or blunt scissors. Cut away from rubber, bristles and skin. Wipe the brush cavity dry, then reinstall the brush in the correct orientation and lock the frame.
Step 5: Clear the edge-sweeping brush
Inspect the edge brush for wound hair beneath its hub. Remove it only with the fastener method shown for the Roomba 105, then clear the shaft and brush. Do not stretch bent arms with heat or soak the motor spindle. Refit the brush securely and replace it when bristles are missing or no longer sweep outward.
Step 6: Free the wheels and accessible air path
Rotate both drive wheels and press them gently through their normal travel while pulling away visible hair. Clean the front caster and its axle only as the support diagram allows. Brush loose debris from the bin inlet and evacuation opening. Do not insert a sharp rod into a motorized fan or disassemble a drive-wheel module.
Step 7: Wipe sensors and the LiDAR window
Turn the robot upright and use a clean dry microfiber cloth on the LiDAR turret window, camera or sensor windows and cliff sensors identified in the manual. Wipe gently rather than polishing with pressure. Do not use glass cleaner, alcohol, compressed air or a wet wipe, and never rotate the LiDAR mechanism by force.
Step 8: Clean contacts and the AutoEmpty dock
With the dock unplugged, wipe the robot and dock charging contacts with a clean dry cloth. Check the dock's evacuation port for accessible lint and inspect the bag. Replace a full bag without emptying and reusing it, then close the compartment completely. Keep water, metal tools and aerosol cleaner away from dock contacts and its blower.
Step 9: Reassemble and verify in the app
Seat the dry filter in the dry bin, latch the bin, confirm both brushes and wheels turn normally and reconnect the dock. Place the robot on its contacts and verify charging. Run a short open-area job and check the app for bin, brush or docking alerts. Stop if the robot grinds, leaks dust or repeatedly fails to empty.
