How to Clean a Sea-Doo Personal Watercraft
A Sea-Doo combines Acrylic or Thermofil hull finishes, textured deck surfaces, vinyl seating, instruments, jet-pump hardware and an exhaust system that may require a model-specific freshwater flush after saltwater use. Sea-Doo's official care guide gives different XPS products and timings by zone: Hull Cleaner works for 2–4 minutes before brushing and immediate rinsing, Wash and Wax mixes at one ounce per gallon, and display lenses use a dedicated multisurface product. Do not collapse those into one universal degreaser. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Identify model, finish and flush instructions
Use the hull identification and operator's guide to confirm year, model, Acrylic or Thermofil finish, deck material and flush-port procedure. Sea-Doo says its listed XPS products are safe for those finishes, but aftermarket wraps, SeaDek pads and repaired gelcoat need their own instructions. Read the saltwater after-care sequence before beginning so you do not improvise while an engine is running.
Step 2: Secure and cool the watercraft
Place the Sea-Doo on a stable trailer or lift, remove the tether key and let hot components cool. Work outdoors with drainage that will not carry cleaner into open water. Chock the trailer and keep people away from the jet pump. Inspect the hull, intake grate, ride plate, impeller area and drain plugs for impact damage or entangled material before adding water.
Step 3: Rinse salt and loose debris promptly
Use fresh water from upper surfaces downward, including hardware and the accessible jet-pump exterior. Do not direct high pressure into instruments, electrical connectors, air intakes or damaged seals. Never reach into the pump with the tether installed. Heavy rope, rock or metal damage requires service; exterior rinsing will not make a compromised propulsion system safe.
Step 4: Clean heavy hull staining on its own path
For scum, algae, waterline or rust staining, Sea-Doo directs XPS Hull Cleaner on the hull, a 2–4 minute wait, brushing, then an immediate thorough rinse. Wear gloves and eye protection and protect the trailer or storage rack from overspray. Follow the product label and never let the chemical dry or migrate onto an unapproved aftermarket surface.
Step 5: Wash deck and general surfaces
Sea-Doo's XPS Wash and Wax mix is 30 mL or one ounce per four liters or one gallon of water. Work it with a wash mitt or soft brush over compatible above-water surfaces, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Use separate tools from the hull-waterline step. Do not scrub textured plastic with an abrasive pad or make controls slippery with wax.
Step 6: Clean vinyl and oily spots separately
For seat and vinyl, Sea-Doo recommends XPS All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser: apply to the target, use a soft brush for stubborn soil, wipe and rinse if needed. Keep liquid from seams and under-seat electrical areas. Engine-compartment or drive-area grease cleaning should follow the exact operator guide and be performed only with the engine off and cool.
Step 7: Clean instruments and mirrors carefully
Use XPS Glass and Multi-surface Cleaner as Sea-Doo directs on the instrument lens and mirrors, wiping with a clean dry cloth. Apply in a controlled way so spray does not enter button gaps or speaker openings. Do not use paper towel, abrasive plastic polish or hull cleaner on the display lens.
Step 8: Flush after saltwater only by the model sequence
Sea-Doo says saltwater use requires a freshwater flush of engine and exhaust, but connection, start/water order and time vary by generation. Some official guidance warns against ordinary out-of-water running except the brief prescribed flush. Use the exact operator's guide, correct adapter, outdoor ventilation and strict time limit. Never run without the required water supply or near people behind the jet.
Step 9: Dry, protect and inspect before storage
Dry the hull, deck, seat seams, instruments and metal hardware. Apply only the XPS protectant suited to the surface after it is clean; do not seal in stains. Leave storage compartments ventilated until dry, then follow drain-plug and cover instructions. Arrange service for a fault code, water intrusion, pump damage, persistent corrosion, abnormal flushing flow or any uncertainty about running order.
