How to Clean a Shark FlexStyle Filter
A lint-coated filter can reduce Shark FlexStyle airflow, lengthen drying time, and contribute to protective overheating shutdowns. Step 1: Confirm that this method matches your model
Read the rating label and identify the series before opening anything. This dry-brush method applies to the HD400-series FlexStyle configuration documented by Shark. Do not assume that an IonCurl, FlexFusion, SpeedStyle, or another Shark dryer has the same filter. If your manual says to rotate, wash, replace, or use a supplied tool, follow that exact instruction instead.
Step 2: Unplug and cool the FlexStyle
Switch the tool off, unplug it by the plug rather than pulling the cord, remove the styling attachment, and let the body cool completely on a dry heat-safe surface. Never service the inlet while the motor is running. Keep the appliance away from a sink, wet counter, aerosol product, and loose hair that could enter the exposed filter.
Step 3: Remove the bottom filter cover
Support the handle and slide the filter cover off the bottom of the unit as Shark directs. Do not yank the cord, pry with a screwdriver, or flex plastic tabs. Note the cover's orientation before removal so it returns along the same path. If it will not move with normal hand pressure, recheck the model manual instead of forcing it.
Step 4: Brush the exposed filter dry

Step 6: Inspect the cord-end inlet
Check that the visible mesh is open and evenly seated and that the cord, strain relief, and cover rails are undamaged. Do not remove screws or reach beyond the user-accessible filter. A torn mesh, melted area, scorched odor, frayed cord, loose strain relief, or debris inside the motor housing requires Shark support rather than deeper owner cleaning.
Step 7: Reattach the cover securely
Align the dry cover in its original orientation and slide it back onto the bottom until it clicks into place, matching Shark's directions. Tug only lightly to confirm it is seated. Never operate the FlexStyle with the cover missing, crooked, or loose because the cover protects the inlet and helps control airflow.
Step 8: Test and set a cleaning trigger
Move away from loose debris, reconnect the tool, and test briefly at a normal setting. Airflow should be even without abnormal noise, smell, or repeated shutdown.
