Step 1: Power off and remove the battery

Release the trigger or power switch, detach the vacuum from its charger, and slide out the removable battery using its release. Disconnect the wand and floor nozzle. Never clean a brushroll or investigate a blockage with the battery installed, even if the display appears off.

Step 2: Empty the dust cup before it reaches MAX

Hold the handheld over a bin and operate the dust-cup release so debris falls away from the motor inlet. Tap the cup gently rather than striking it. Clear lint from the metal screen with a soft dry brush and check that the lower door closes evenly with no hair across the gasket.

Step 3: Wipe the cup and handheld dry-side surfaces

Follow the IZ800 guide before detaching the dust cup. Wipe washable or wipeable cup surfaces as specified and dry them completely. Use only a dry or barely damp cloth on the handheld housing, display, motor inlet, battery rails, and contacts. Never immerse the handheld or spray cleaner into the Clean Sense path.

Step 4: Remove the pre-motor filter set

Open the filter access and remove the foam and felt filters in order. Tap loose dust into the trash and inspect their edges. Heavy gray buildup, odor, or shorter runtime can signal restricted airflow. Do not use a stiff brush, compressed air, or another vacuum on delicate filter media.

Step 5: Rinse every washable filter with water only

Shark's IZ800 FAQ says to rinse filters with water only. Gently squeeze the foam and press water through the felt without wringing. Rinse the post-motor filter according to its release and orientation. Do not add soap or place filters in a dishwasher or washing machine.

Step 6: Air-dry filters for up to 48 hours

Set filters in a well-ventilated location until fully dry; Shark says drying can take up to 48 hours. Check the centers and pleats, not just the outer surface. Avoid radiators, dryers, ovens, hair dryers, and direct flame. Never operate the vacuum with wet filters or without the complete filter set.

Step 7: Clear the PowerFins and self-cleaning brushroll

Turn the disconnected nozzle over and remove accessible hair, thread, and fibers from the roller, PowerFins, end areas, and intake. Use blunt scissors only where there is a cutting groove and keep them away from fins, bristles, belts, and seals. Self-cleaning reduces hair wrap but does not make the head maintenance-free.

Step 8: Clean the removable soft roller if the model allows it

Open only the documented garage or release and lift out the soft roller. Tap off debris and use the cleaning method in the exact owner guide; some Shark rollers are water-rinsable while powered housings never are. If rinsed, allow at least 24 hours or until fully dry before reinstalling. Wipe the clear sensor and nozzle windows gently.

Step 9: Inspect the wand, MultiFLEX joint, and airways

Straighten the wand, disconnect it at both ends, and look through it against a light. Check the MultiFLEX bend, handheld inlet, nozzle neck, and tool openings. Pull obstructions from the nearest end with fingers or a blunt flexible tool. Do not use a sharp rod that could puncture a hose or damage wiring.

Step 10: Reassemble dry components and test

Install the completely dry filters in their original order, close the cup door, refit any dry soft roller, and connect the nozzle, wand, battery, and handheld until each clicks. Test briefly in the lowest suitable mode. If the vacuum surges or displays a blockage, stop and repeat the section-by-section airway check.
