Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Switch off and unplug the upright

Set the power switch to off, unplug the cord, and press the wand or Lift-Away releases only after the brushroll has stopped. Move the machine to a hard surface where loose dust is easy to collect. Do not perform maintenance with the pod connected to power or the brushroll switch active.

Step 2: Empty both ends of the dust cup

Release the dust cup from the pod and hold it over a trash container. Open the bottom door for heavy debris, then use the top door to clear lint from the screen and upper chamber. Do not exceed the MAX line. Close both doors until they click and inspect their seals for trapped grit.

Step 3: Wipe the dust cup and shroud

Use a dry cloth or soft brush on the internal screen and shroud. If the exact NV360 guide permits rinsing the detached cup, use water only and allow it to dry fully; otherwise wipe it with a damp cloth. Never rinse the pod, motor inlet, or electrical connections, and do not use abrasive powder inside clear plastic.

Step 4: Remove the foam and felt pre-motor filters

Lift the filter cover beneath the dust cup and remove the thick foam disc and thinner felt filter, keeping their order. Tap them gently over a bin. Inspect for tears, crumbling edges, or permanent compression. Do not brush felt aggressively or mix up which piece sits closest to the motor.

Step 5: Rinse pre-motor filters about every three months

Shark's NV360 FAQ recommends washing the foam and felt filters every three months during normal use. Rinse with water only until it runs clear, gently squeeze the foam, and press water from the felt without wringing it. Do not use soap, a washing machine, or a dishwasher.

Step 6: Check the post-motor HEPA filter separately

Open the front exhaust grille and remove the HEPA filter by its tabs. Follow the model's interval, commonly about once a year under normal use, and rinse with water only if the NV360 guide identifies it as washable. Keep the pleats intact. Never run the vacuum without every specified filter installed.

Step 7: Air-dry every washed filter completely

Place filters flat or upright in moving room air for at least 24 hours, and longer if the felt or HEPA pleats retain moisture. Avoid radiators, dryers, ovens, direct flame, and high heat. Touch the center and edges before installation; a damp filter can damage the motor and quickly collect a solid mat of dust.

Step 8: Clear the brushroll and floor nozzle

Turn the unplugged nozzle over. Cut wrapped thread or hair with blunt scissors, working along the brushroll groove and away from bristles and belts. Remove fibers by hand and inspect the inlet behind the roll. Do not remove screws or pour water into the nozzle; the brushroll drive and wiring must remain dry.

Step 9: Check the hose, wand, and pod inlets

Detach the hose and wand at their normal releases and look through each against a light. Flex the hose gently and remove reachable debris from either end without using a sharp rod. Check the elbow beneath the pod and the floor-nozzle airway. Wipe hose seals and reconnect only when openings are clear.

Step 10: Reassemble in order and test for sealed airflow

Return the completely dry HEPA filter and grille, then the felt and foam filters in their original stack. Seat the dust cup and reconnect the hose, wand, pod, and nozzle until each latch clicks. Plug in and test briefly. If suction remains weak, switch off and recheck door seals and every airway rather than operating without a filter.
