How to Clean a Shark PowerDetect Cordless Vacuum

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Turn off and remove the battery
Switch the vacuum off, remove it from the charging dock, and take out the removable battery when the model guide directs. Detach the wand and floor nozzle. If the package includes a Clean & Empty base, unplug the base before opening its dust compartment or filter cover. Keep liquid away from the battery, contacts, charging posts, motor body, and base electronics.
Step 2: Empty the handheld dust cup
Hold the dust cup over trash and use the release without reaching through the flap. Empty before debris reaches MAX. Remove the cup only by its approved release and clear hair from the inlet without touching electrical components. Wipe the cup with a dry cloth or use the exact manual's washable-cup method; every seal and surface must be completely dry before it returns to the handheld.
Step 3: Clean pre- and post-motor filters
Remove the foam, felt, and post-motor filter components in their documented order. Shark instructs owners to rinse washable filters with water only—no soap—and allow 24 to 48 hours of complete air-drying. Do not wring felt, scrub filter media, place it in a dryer, or operate the vacuum while a filter is missing or damp.
Step 4: Maintain the Clean & Empty base
On compatible systems, empty or replace the base collection component before it is overfilled. Lift out the dock's exhaust foam filter as the support guide shows, rinse it with water only if it is identified as washable, and let it dry fully before reinstalling. Vacuum or dry-wipe the compartment; do not wash the powered dock or spray cleaner into its intake.
Step 5: Clear the dual brushroll floor nozzle
With power removed, turn the nozzle over and inspect both the front soft roller and rear brushroll, wheel axles, and intake. Shark's self-cleaning brushroll reduces wraps but does not eliminate string, carpet fiber, or packed debris. Cut only accessible wraps in short sections and pull them away. Remove a roller solely by the model's release sequence and keep the powered housing dry.
Step 6: Wipe dirt and edge sensors
Use a clean dry microfiber cloth on visible sensor windows around the nozzle or handheld. Dust film can affect automatic detection. Do not use glass cleaner, alcohol, wet swabs, or a sharp tool on sensor lenses. If a sensor appears scratched or an automatic mode stays incorrect after dry cleaning, use Shark troubleshooting instead of polishing it.
Step 7: Check wand, elbow, and airways
Look through the detached wand and check the flexible joint, nozzle neck, dust-cup inlet, and tool openings. Remove debris from the nearest opening with a blunt object that cannot puncture a hose. Do not force a clog toward the motor or rinse a powered airway. A model with MultiFLEX or another folding joint may hide debris at the bend.
Step 8: Clean the exterior and charging contacts
Wipe hard exterior surfaces with a dry or barely damp cloth. Clean charging contacts only with a dry cloth after power is disconnected. Keep moisture out of displays, buttons, odor-neutralizer components, battery rails, and base connections. Do not oil brushroll bearings, folding joints, or wheels unless the service instructions specifically require it.
Step 9: Reassemble after complete drying
Allow washed filters and any approved washable cup component to dry for the full 24-to-48-hour window and until no inner layer feels cool. Install filters in the correct order, close the cup, lock the nozzle, reconnect the wand and battery, and then restore dock power. Test at low power and stop for pulsing, error lights, or a stalled roller.
