How to Clean Shaw Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Confirm that the floor is Shaw vinyl

Use an invoice, carton, sample plank, or retailer record to identify the collection, finish, and installation method. Do not apply laminate, hardwood, or tile instructions just because the planks look similar. Review the current Shaw warranty for allowed cleaners, wet devices, repair limits, and exclusions before treating a large area.

Step 2: Pick up spills and loose grit promptly

Blot liquid with a white absorbent cloth and lift solids with a plastic edge held nearly flat. Work from the outside of a spill inward and dry bevels and transitions. At entrances, remove sand and small stones before foot traffic grinds them across the wear layer.

Step 3: Dry-clean the full floor

Sweep with a soft broom, use a microfiber dust mop, or vacuum with a hard-floor attachment and rotating brush off. Inspect wheels and pads for embedded grit. Reach beneath furniture and along baseboards so a damp mop does not turn hidden dust into streaks.

Step 4: Select a neutral-pH vinyl cleaner

Use Shaw R2X Hard Surfaces cleaner or another product approved for the exact collection. Read whether it is ready to use or concentrated. Never improvise by mixing cleaners. Avoid wax, polish, oil soap, abrasive powder, solvent, ammonia-heavy cleaner, bleach, and dish-soap solutions that can leave film.

Step 5: Apply cleaner to the mop, not as a flood

Lightly mist a clean microfiber pad or a small section according to the product directions. The floor should become evenly damp without puddles. Work along plank direction in manageable passes and replace a dirty pad instead of spreading gray solution. Do not pour a bucket directly onto LVP.

Step 6: Agitate textured soil gently

For dirt in embossing, use the damp microfiber pad or a soft nylon brush with light pressure. Keep the brush moving and test a hidden spot. Do not use a melamine foam eraser or scrub pad without manufacturer approval; both can change gloss on a vinyl wear layer.

Step 7: Treat a stain by category

Blot food or drink and use the approved neutral cleaner first. For dye, adhesive, paint, asphalt, marker, or chemical spills, consult Shaw's stain chart and warranty before applying a solvent. Put any approved treatment on a white cloth, test, use the smallest amount, remove residue, and ventilate.

Step 8: Dry seams and inspect for film

Use a clean dry cloth at bevels, wall edges, thresholds, and damaged areas. Normal airflow should finish drying quickly. If the floor looks streaky or feels sticky, change to a clean pad and follow the cleaner's residue-removal directions; adding polish will trap rather than solve buildup.

Step 9: Skip unverified steam cleaning

Do not use a steam mop unless the current care document for the exact Shaw vinyl collection expressly allows the device and technique. Heat and forced moisture can affect joints, adhesives, finish, or warranty. A neutral-pH damp microfiber method is the safer default when the product cannot be identified.

Step 10: Prevent repeat scratching and discoloration

Use non-staining walk-off mats, clean felt protectors, and a suitable hard-floor chair mat. Lift heavy furniture rather than dragging it and use wide load-distribution panels during moves. Avoid rubber or latex backing that the warranty excludes, protect prolonged direct sun as recommended, and repair cuts or open seams before wet cleaning.
