How to Clean a SOVA Night Guard

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Rinse promptly after removal
Remove the SOVA with clean fingers and rinse both sides under cool or lukewarm water before saliva and plaque dry. Keep routine water well below the hot fitting temperature. Do not put the used guard directly into a closed case or wrap it in a tissue where moisture and debris remain trapped.

Step 3: Brush both broad surfaces gently
Apply a small amount of the chosen cleaner to a separate soft toothbrush and use light strokes over the tooth-contact and tongue-facing surfaces. Support the thin guard in your palm rather than flexing it. If using toothpaste, avoid an unusually abrasive whitening formula that can roughen the surface.
Step 4: Clear each perforation
Angle the toothbrush from both sides so bristles enter the openings without forcing through them. Hold the guard against a bright background and verify that water passes through every perforation. Do not use a pin, drill bit or toothpick to enlarge a blocked hole.
Step 5: Rinse until no cleaner remains
Run cool or lukewarm water over the guard and through its openings until foam, grit and flavor are gone. Cleaner residue can contact oral tissue for hours, so rinse more than the visible surface. Inspect for cloudy film and repeat gentle brushing if needed.

Shake excess water from the SOVA, blot lightly and leave it on a clean surface in moving room air. Place it in the ventilated case only when dry. Do not use a dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, direct sun or a heater; SOVA's remoldable material responds to heat.
Step 8: Inspect fit and replace when needed
Check for a changed bite, rough edge, tear, thinning, permanent odor or perforation damage. SOVA notes that care extends product life but still recommends periodic replacement; its support guidance commonly cites six to nine months for a night guard. A guard that has deformed should be evaluated under the exact refitting instructions rather than casually reheated during cleaning.
