How to Clean a Yoto Player or Mini Safely

Step 1: Resolve the Mini safety check first

Identify the unit using the label on its base. For older Minis, check the CPSC recall reannouncement and Yoto's current eligibility instructions. The replacement charging cable from the earlier recall is not the full battery remedy. Do not resume use of an affected, unremedied unit because it looks clean or charges normally. Keep recall work separate from this guide; battery replacement must follow the official process rather than improvised opening instructions.

Step 2: Power off and remove loose accessories

Disconnect charging equipment and switch the player off. Remove the audio card and any removable jacket according to its fit instructions, without pulling on buttons or ports. Put cards in a dry location before bringing a damp cloth near the player. Check for a cracked housing, damaged port, swelling, unusual heat or a burned smell. If present, stop and contact Yoto. Do not clean around a safety problem and return the unit to a child while waiting to see whether it happens again.

Step 3: Lift surface dirt before using moisture

Use a soft dry cloth to remove loose dust from the face, base and controls. Turn the cloth rather than moving crumbs repeatedly around the speaker area. Avoid pushing brush bristles, cotton swabs or metal tools into the card slot, speaker openings or charging port. A lodged object is not ordinary wipeable dirt. Note its location and consult Yoto if it cannot be addressed using the company's specific advice. Do not shake the player aggressively or force another card through an obstructed slot.

Step 4: Wipe marks with controlled dampness

Dampen a cloth lightly, squeeze out excess water and wipe accessible exterior marks in small sections. Do not spray the player, immerse it or let fluid collect around the controls. Yoto's product-safety guidance requires disconnection and power-off before liquid cleaning and warns against water exposure. Choose the least wet method that removes the mark. For a stain that needs a chemical product, confirm compatibility rather than assuming a disinfectant wipe, solvent or abrasive eraser is suitable for the printed finish.

Step 5: Keep cards and jackets on separate cleaning paths

Do not wash the player while it is inside its jacket. Wipe an accessory only according to that accessory's own care instructions, then dry it separately before refitting. Keep cards away from soaking and do not introduce a damp card into the slot. Lay out the parts so the dry card stack cannot be mistaken for a drying area. If a jacket hides a sticky spill, inspect the newly exposed player surface carefully; an apparently clean outer sleeve does not establish that moisture stayed outside the electronics.

Step 6: Treat accidental wetting differently from wiping

If the player was splashed heavily, submerged or exposed while charging, stop routine cleaning. Disconnect mains power safely, keep it off and follow Yoto's liquid-incident advice. Do not touch wet mains equipment, use a hair dryer, pack the unit in rice or repeatedly connect the charger to see whether it recovered. Yoto's water-resistance support article is the appropriate starting point. Contact support when the extent of moisture entry is uncertain; a dry outer shell does not prove a dry battery compartment.

Step 7: Reassemble only after inspection and drying

For an ordinary surface clean with no liquid entry, allow the player and accessories to dry fully before reassembly or charging. An adult should handle charging, using the correct equipment for the model. Keep the player on a stable surface and follow Yoto's age and ventilation warnings. Test normal operation away from the child before returning it. If heat, flickering or a charging problem appears, discontinue use. Record the model, recall remedy status and incident details so support can assess the correct product rather than a generic speaker.
