How to Wash an Ergobaby Omni Carrier
Ergobaby's Omni carriers can be machine-washed, but careful preparation prevents the wash itself from becoming the source of damage. Buckles and clips should be closed, hook-and-loop sections secured, the carrier protected in a pillowcase or laundry bag, and mild detergent used without bleach or fabric softener. A cold gentle cycle around 30°C is followed by air-drying in ventilation away from direct sunlight. This guide is scoped to Omni-family structured carriers, including common Omni 360, Omni Breeze and Omni Dream variants. It does not automatically apply to newborn wraps, linen carriers or Alta and Lift hip-seat models whose removable foam seat base changes the preparation. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Confirm it is an Omni structured carrier
Read the label and identify the exact model. Ergobaby gives different preparation to some products; for example, Lift and Alta hip-seat carriers have a foam seat base that must be removed, while an Omni does not use that same instruction. Wraps and linen textiles may require separate care.
Step 2: Spot-clean between full washes
Brush off dried debris and blot isolated drool or food with a soft damp cloth and a trace of mild detergent. Lift soap with a plain damp cloth. Targeted cleaning reduces color wear and stress on padding, so reserve a full wash for widespread sweat, spit-up, odor or visible soil.
Step 3: Close hardware and hook-and-loop sections
Fasten all buckles and clips, secure hook-and-loop tabs and remove detachable accessories. Loosen long straps enough to rinse while preventing them from whipping freely. Inspect safety elastics around buckle ends and make sure no teething pad or infant insert remains under a different care rule.
Step 4: Enclose the carrier for protection
Ergobaby recommends placing the carrier in a pillowcase; a roomy laundry bag serves the same protective role. Close the case so buckles cannot strike the drum and straps cannot wrap around other laundry. Wash the carrier separately from rough items, zippers and lint-producing towels.
Step 5: Run a cold gentle cycle
Use a gentle cycle at about 30°C or the temperature printed on the label with a modest amount of mild detergent. Do not use bleach, fabric softener or an aggressive stain product. Too much detergent can lodge in padded seams, so use an extra rinse instead of a stronger wash when residue is a concern.
Step 6: Support the wet carrier
Lift it with both hands, release the protective case and press excess water into towels without twisting the waistband or wringing shoulder padding. Straighten twisted webbing and open hood pockets and buckle elastics so hidden water can escape. Do not pull the carrier by a single wet strap.
Step 7: Air-dry away from direct sun
Ergobaby directs owners to air-dry in a ventilated area away from direct sunlight. Spread the waist panel and shoulder straps across a broad rack, turn the carrier during drying and avoid a tumble dryer, radiator or hair dryer. Thick bound edges must be dry internally before storage or use.
Step 8: Restore settings and inspect safety parts
Once dry, operate every buckle and adjuster, inspect load-bearing stitching and confirm the seat-width setting and head support match the child and carry position.
