How to Clean a Philips Lumea IPL Device
A Philips Lumea needs more precise cleaning than an ordinary grooming tool because skin oil, loose hair and product residue can collect on the attachment, metal reflector, connector, skin-tone sensor and light-exit window. Philips says a dirty window can reduce results and may create an unpleasant or burning smell during treatment. The device must first be switched off, unplugged and allowed to cool for 15 minutes because the light window becomes hot. Cleaning then uses only a few drops of water on the supplied soft cloth; the Lumea must not be rinsed, cleaned in a wet setting or allowed to retain moisture around its electrical parts. This guide covers current BRI-series Lumea IPL devices while emphasizing that attachment shapes and sensor positions vary. It separates harmless surface residue from cracks, burned marks and internal haze that should not be scrubbed away.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Switch off, unplug and cool for 15 minutes
End the treatment, switch the Lumea off and disconnect both the device and adapter. Place it on a clean dry surface for at least 15 minutes. Do not touch or clean the light-exit window immediately after flashing because Philips identifies it as a hot surface. Cleaning while connected also risks carrying moisture toward the power connector.
Step 2: Remove the treatment attachment
Pull the installed attachment straight off using the method in the model manual. Hold it by its outer edges so fingerprints are not added to the reflector or optical area. Inspect the attachment opening, metal reflector, connector points and sensor window under angled light before applying moisture.
Step 3: Dampen the supplied cloth sparingly
Place only a few drops of water on the Philips cleaning cloth. It should feel barely damp and must not drip when squeezed. Do not substitute household glass cleaner, alcohol, abrasive polish, disinfectant spray or a saturated wipe. Never spray liquid directly onto the device or clean it beside a filled sink.
Step 4: Clean every used attachment
Wipe the skin-contact surface, inner rim, metal reflector and attachment connector. Turn to a clean part of the cloth as residue transfers. Work gently at corners instead of pressing a fingernail or tool into them. If several attachments were used, clean each one separately so residue is not moved from one treatment area to another.
Step 5: Wipe the light-exit window and sensor
Support the Lumea body and wipe the glass light-exit window with light overlapping strokes. Clean the skin-tone sensor identified in the exact manual; on many attachments it is the small rectangle above the window. A dirty sensor can interfere with flashing, but heavy rubbing can scratch the optical surfaces. Stop if a mark appears beneath the glass.
Step 6: Clean the exterior without wetting openings
Use the barely damp cloth on the handle, buttons and outer attachment surfaces, then immediately follow with a dry cloth. Keep water out of ventilation slots, the power socket and internal attachment cavity. The Lumea is not a washable shaver, so do not hold it under a faucet or immerse any powered part.
Step 7: Dry and inspect the optics
Let every part air-dry on a clean surface. Under bright angled light, confirm that the window, reflector, sensor and connectors are free of hair, film and moisture. Do not use a hair dryer, heater, cotton swab that sheds fibers or compressed air. Cracks, permanent discoloration, blistering or internal haze require support rather than stronger cleaner.
Step 8: Reattach and store dust-free
When everything is completely dry, click a clean attachment onto the Lumea to protect the light window. Store the device and adapter in their pouch, box or case in a dry, dust-free location without tightly wrapping the cord. Inspect again before the next treatment; the skin and optical surfaces should both be clean and dry before flashing.
