How to Clean a PlayStation Portal Safely
PlayStation Portal combines an LCD screen, DualSense-style controls, speakers, cooling openings, a USB-C charging port and a 3.5 mm headset jack in one handheld device. A cleaner sprayed onto the display can migrate into the buttons or stick mechanisms, while a pointed tool can scratch the panel or damage a port. Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Shut down rather than use rest mode
Save or disconnect the Remote Play session, open the power menu and turn the Portal off fully. Unplug its USB-C cable and any wired headset. Let a warm device cool before cleaning and work with dry hands away from drinks.
Step 2: Remove a case and loose accessories
Take off any removable shell, thumb-stick cap or strap according to its maker's directions. Clean those separately so moisture and grit are not trapped against the Portal. Do not force a tightly fitted accessory across the sticks or triggers.
Step 3: Dust the screen dry
Use a clean optical microfiber cloth with broad, very light passes. Lift visible grit before polishing fingerprints so a hard particle is not dragged across the LCD. Do not use paper towel, abrasive pad, glass spray or a fingernail on a spot.
Step 4: Clean fingerprints from the display
Continue with the dry cloth first. If the current safety guide permits controlled moisture, dampen the cloth rather than the screen and wring it until nearly dry. Wipe without pressing at the bezel and immediately follow with a dry section. Never let liquid collect along the display edge.
Step 5: Wipe the grips and rear shell
Use the second soft cloth, dry or barely damp, on the white grips and back. Support the unit from underneath rather than squeezing triggers against the table. Keep moisture away from seams, speakers and cooling openings.
Step 6: Clean buttons and directional controls
With the device off, wipe button tops and the directional pad. A dry soft brush can loosen dust around their edges. PlayStation recommends a soft cloth for dirt around accessory buttons. Do not drip cleaner into gaps or repeatedly flood and press a sticky control.
Step 7: Clean the analog-stick bases
Move each stick gently through its normal range while wiping the exposed base with a dry soft cloth, consistent with PlayStation support. Brush loose lint outward. Do not pry the cap, insert a swab into the mechanism or assume cleaning will repair electronic stick drift.
Step 8: Clear vents, speakers and ports dry
Hold the Portal so loosened debris falls away and brush across—not into—the openings. Keep the USB-C and headset jack completely dry. Do not use a pin, liquid contact cleaner, household vacuum or high-pressure compressed air.
Step 9: Let the Portal dry and inspect it
Leave it powered off at room temperature until no cool dampness remains near the screen edge, buttons or seams. Look for cracks, a swollen case or signs that liquid entered. Do not use heat or reconnect power to a device with suspected internal moisture.
Step 10: Reconnect and test
Power on, update system software if prompted and test the touchscreen, sticks, buttons, audio and charging. If a control remains sticky or drifts after exterior dirt is removed, use PlayStation repair support instead of opening the Portal.
