How to Clean a PlayStation VR2 Headset
PlayStation VR2 combines coated lenses, cameras and sensors, a removable rubber light shield, padded contact areas, air vents and tethered electronics. Sony gives each area a different method: the lenses receive only a soft dry lens cloth, the headset body is wiped dry, the removable light shield may be washed with water and fully air-dried, and exterior vent dust may be removed with a handheld vacuum. Treating the whole headset as washable can trap moisture or damage optical coatings. The process below covers the PS VR2 headset, Sense controllers, earbuds and cable without opening powered components.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Power down and disconnect
Close the game, turn off the PS5, disconnect the PS VR2 USB cable and let the headset cool. Remove the earbuds if they obstruct cleaning. Work away from direct sunlight; Sony warns that sunlight entering the lenses can damage the display. Keep liquids away from the headset, controllers, cable plug and console.
Step 2: Inspect before touching the optics
Use good room light to locate smudges, loose particles and damaged surfaces. Do not press the lenses or use compressed air that could drive debris into the headset. If gritty material is present, lift it carefully with the clean dry lens cloth instead of grinding it across a coating.
Step 3: Clean both lenses dry
Wipe each lens gently with a soft, dry cloth made for lenses. Use a clean area of the cloth for each lens and light passes from the center outward. Sony says not to use paper products or water droplets. Do not add alcohol, eyeglass spray, household cleaner or abrasive lens tissue.
Step 4: Wipe cameras, sensors and exterior housing
Use a clean dry microfiber cloth on the plastic body and gently over exterior camera windows. Avoid pressing or scratching the windows. Keep the cloth dry around seams, buttons, microphone openings and the USB cable exit. Do not insert a swab or tool into any opening.
Step 5: Remove the light shield carefully
Detach the flexible light shield using Sony's illustrated sequence rather than pulling at random points. Note how its tabs and nose groove align. Inspect the attachment channel for debris and wipe the fixed headset surface dry. Do not wash padding or the headset body with the shield.
Step 6: Wash and air-dry the light shield
Wash the detached light shield with fresh water, wipe away residue and blot it with a clean towel. Leave it in a ventilated shaded area until fully dry. Do not use heat, a dryer, bleach or solvent. Moisture hidden in folds or around attachment tabs must be gone before reinstallation.
Step 7: Clear exterior vent dust
Sony permits a handheld vacuum to remove dust accumulated in the integrated vents. Use low suction at the exterior only, without contacting lenses or pulling on the cable. Do not insert a nozzle, disassemble the vent or use wet cleaning. Stop if a grille is loose or damaged.
Step 8: Clean the headband, controllers and earbuds
Wipe the headband and PS VR2 Sense controller exteriors with dry microfiber. Use a dry soft brush around buttons and seams, keeping liquid away from triggers, sticks and charging contacts. Wipe earbud bodies and cable dry. If the exact earbud instructions permit removing silicone ear tips, wash only those detached tips with water and dry them fully before reinstalling.
Step 9: Refit the shield and store safely
Align the dry shield with the nose groove and engage every tab in the order Sony shows; an unseated tab can admit light or rub the face. Check that lenses, cameras, shield, headset, controllers, ear tips and connectors are dry. Store the headset with lenses covered from sunlight, the cable loosely routed and no weight on the visor.
