How to Clean a Selkirk Pickleball Paddle
Selkirk paddle care begins with a face-material check. A raw-carbon face collects plastic ball fibers in its texture and may be cleaned with a purpose-made carbon-fiber block, while other fiberglass or composite faces are normally wiped with a damp cloth and a very small amount of mild soap. Water should not soak the edge, core or handle, and the graphics on some faces can wear even when performance remains intact. This guide covers Selkirk and SLK paddles with raw-carbon, fiberglass and composite faces, keeping the carbon block away from non-carbon graphics and treating edge separation, a loose handle or a dead core as damage rather than dirt to scrub more aggressively.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Confirm the face construction
Check the product page, label or purchase record for raw carbon fiber, fiberglass or another composite. Selkirk's carbon cleaning block is meant for raw-carbon texture and is not a universal eraser for every printed face. If uncertain, use only the gentler damp-cloth method.
Step 2: Inspect before removing marks
Look along the edge guard for lifting, cracks or impact damage, and gently check the handle and butt cap for movement. Compare both faces under angled light. A change in sound, soft area, delamination or loose handle needs warranty or service evaluation, not harder scrubbing.
Step 3: Dry-wipe loose dust
Use a clean microfiber cloth to remove dust and grit from both faces and the edge guard. Wipe from the center toward the edge so particles are not driven into the seam. Do not hit the paddle against a shoe or court surface to knock dirt off.
Step 4: Clean raw carbon with the proper block
With the face dry, rub the Selkirk carbon-fiber cleaning block gently in small circular motions across marked areas. The block lifts embedded plastic fibers from the texture. Wipe loose debris away with microfiber. Use light pressure and stop if graphics, coating or surface fibers appear to change.
Step 5: Damp-clean fiberglass or composite faces
Spray a cloth—not the paddle—with mostly water and just a dash of mild soap. Gently wipe the face and repeat with a plain damp section to remove residue. Selkirk's guidance notes that face graphics may naturally wear; aggressive abrasion to preserve a cosmetic look can do more harm than the marks.
Step 6: Detail the edge guard
Use the damp cloth around the guard and a soft dry or barely damp toothbrush at the seam. Keep the paddle face-down or edge-down so liquid cannot run inward. Do not pry the guard, inject cleaner under it or soak the paddle to reach court dust.
Step 7: Clean the grip without wetting the handle core
Wipe the grip lightly with a damp cloth and dry it. An overgrip that remains slick, compressed or odorous should be replaced rather than saturated with disinfectant. When removing it, do not unwind or cut the permanent undergrip unless the replacement process calls for that.
Step 8: Dry at room temperature
Stand the paddle where air reaches both faces and the grip. Do not leave it in a hot car, direct sun or freezing conditions and do not use a hair dryer. Selkirk recommends dry, room-temperature storage; heat and moisture can affect adhesives, core and grip.
Step 9: Protect the clean paddle
Once dry, place it in a cover without heavy items pressing on the face. Before play, feel both faces and the grip for cleaner residue and check the edge guard again. The surface should be dry and consistent, with no loose particles or lifted seam.
