Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Finish the extraction pass

Release the spray trigger and make several dry suction passes over the treated surface to recover moisture. Set the machine upright, switch it off and unplug with dry hands. Do not carry it by the hose or work on tanks while the motor is running.

Step 2: Remove and empty the dirty-water tank

Wear gloves if appropriate, lift the tank by its designed handle and remove the lid. Pour wastewater into a suitable drain under local guidance; keep it away from food-preparation sinks when contamination is significant. Do not let dirty water spill into the motor base.

Step 3: Clean the lid, float and foam filter

Step 4: Rinse the dirty-water tank

Swirl warm soapy water around the tank, use a soft brush at residue lines and rinse until clear. Avoid abrasive powder, bleach, boiling water and sharp tools. Leave the tank, lid, float and filter separated on the drying rack.

Step 5: Open and rinse the hand tool

Detach the tool by its release rather than pulling the hose. Open the clear cover or air-path access shown in the guide, remove hair from the bristles and rinse washable tool parts. Do not lose a seal or reinstall a cover while residue remains underneath.

Step 6: Flush the hose with the supplied tool

Fill the CarpetXpert or designated solution tank with clean water to the instructed fill line. Attach Shark's hose-cleaning tool to the compatible crevice tool, power the unit and pull the trigger as the guide directs so clean water rinses the hose. Use no improvised fitting.

Step 7: Clean a Pet Mess Tool separately

If included, empty its waste cup and clean the cup, filter and bristle area with soap and water according to Shark's directions. The tool is designed to keep certain messes out of the main hose, so do not bypass its filter or pour its contents into a clean-solution tank.

Step 8: Check the clog-access door

With the machine off and unplugged, inspect the under-unit clog door only as the owner guide permits. Remove accessible debris gently and close the door securely. Do not insert a wire deep into the hose, remove motor screws or operate with the access door open.

Step 9: Wipe the powered unit

Use a soft damp cloth on the exterior, then dry it. Never immerse the base, rinse it under a faucet or spray the controls, cord or motor vents. Wipe the cord before loosely winding it after every wet part has been removed.
