How to Clean and Sterilize Willow Go Pump Parts

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Turn off and separate the powered pump
End the session, turn off Willow Go, remove it from the breast and wash hands. Disassemble the container, flange, diaphragm and the other washable milk-contact pieces exactly as the app or user guide shows. Put the powered pump and charger in a dry area; neither belongs in the basin.
Step 2: Inspect all five washable parts
Separate every seal rather than washing a partly assembled cup. Check the diaphragm, duckbill-style valve areas, flange tunnel and container edges for milk film, tears or distortion. Do not poke a narrow opening with a sharp brush or pull flexible material forcefully, because a small defect can create an air leak.
Step 3: Clean before the very first use
Willow says to wash the five washable parts—the milk-contacting pieces and diaphragm—in hot soapy water, then boil them for five minutes before first use. Keep pieces separated and give them space in the pot. Remove with clean tongs and place them on a clean drying surface.
Step 4: Wash promptly after pumping
Rinse or wash the fully disassembled washable parts after every pumping session according to Willow's current guidance. Use hot water, mild dish soap and a dedicated basin. Agitate flexible parts gently and brush broad container and flange surfaces without forcing bristles into valve openings.
Step 5: Rinse away all soap
Rinse each piece under clean running water, moving it so hidden edges and the underside of the diaphragm clear. Soap film can create odor, contact residue or sealing problems. Do not use a used kitchen sponge or place clean parts back in a sink where food bacteria and cleaner remain.
Step 6: Wipe the pump body only
Use a clean towel or lightly damp cloth on the powered pump exterior. Keep liquid out of seams, buttons, charging contacts and the motor opening, and never run the pump under a faucet. Remove visible milk promptly without spraying disinfectant directly on electronics.
Step 7: Air-dry parts completely
Place pieces separately on a clean rack or unused towel and allow complete air drying. Avoid rubbing milk-contact interiors with a used cloth or reassembling while droplets remain beneath the diaphragm. Dry storage also prevents odor and makes it easier to see residue before the next session.
Step 8: Reassemble and check suction
Fit each dry part in the order shown by Willow, ensuring the diaphragm edge and valve surfaces lie flat and the container locks to the pump. Start a session and listen for a stable seal. If suction is poor, recheck clean dry assembly and inspect for worn parts instead of increasing suction against a leak.
