How to Clean Phonak Audéo Hearing Aids
Rechargeable Phonak Audéo receiver-in-canal hearing aids collect earwax and moisture at the dome or custom earpiece while relying on small charging contacts and a replaceable wax protector to keep the receiver working. Phonak says to inspect the earpiece daily and wipe surfaces with a lint-free cloth, without household detergent or rinsing. Weekly, the earpiece and charging contacts may be cleaned with a soft damp cloth or a purpose-made hearing-aid cloth, while the unplugged charger inserts are cleared with a lint-free cloth. The wax protector is a replacement component, not a screen to wash indefinitely: Phonak gives typical replacement intervals of four to eight weeks for a regular speaker and one to two weeks for ActiveVent, with earlier replacement if dirty or sound quality falls. This guide keeps moisture away from microphones, receivers and charger wells and requires the exact Audéo platform and earpiece type before any component is removed.

Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Confirm the receiver, dome and wax-filter type
Identify the Audéo model, receiver and whether it uses a standard dome, custom SlimTip or ActiveVent. Find the correct CeruShield, CeruStop or other filter instructions before removing anything. Similar-looking filters and domes are not automatically interchangeable.
Step 2: Remove the aids from charging and power down
Take both hearing aids from the charger, switch them off if the manual requires it and unplug the charger from mains power before cleaning its wells. Work over a soft clean towel so a dropped device is cushioned and small parts remain visible.
Step 3: Perform the daily dry inspection
Inspect the dome or earpiece, receiver opening, microphone ports, case seam and charging contacts for wax and moisture. Phonak's daily method uses a lint-free cloth. Wipe outward with clean dry hands and never push wax deeper with a pin or fingernail.
Step 4: Clean the earpiece with controlled weekly moisture
Once weekly, Phonak allows a soft damp cloth or special hearing-aid cleaning cloth on the earpiece. Wring ordinary cloth thoroughly and keep moisture away from microphone openings and the receiver connection. Do not rinse the aid, use soap or apply household cleaning spray.
Step 5: Wipe charging contacts carefully
Use a soft damp cloth on the hearing aid's accessible charging contacts as Phonak directs, then immediately dry them with a lint-free cloth. Do not scrape corrosion, use a pencil eraser or bridge contacts with a metal tool. They must be clean and dry before charging.
Step 6: Clean the unplugged charger dry
Remove dust and dirt from charger inserts with a lint-free cloth. Keep the charger disconnected from mains power and do not pour liquid, alcohol or compressed air into its wells. Inspect the cable and power supply separately for damage.
Step 7: Replace a clogged wax protector
If the protector looks dirty or volume and sound quality fall, use the correct Phonak replacement disk or tool and follow its exact remove-and-install sequence. Phonak's typical interval is four to eight weeks for a regular speaker and one to two weeks for ActiveVent, but visible blockage can require earlier replacement.
Step 8: Dry completely before charging
Let the earpiece, case and contacts dry at room temperature and use only a compatible drying system recommended for the model. Confirm the charger wells are clean and dry before seating the aids. Remove hearing aids before hairspray or cosmetics so future residue does not enter their openings.
